New Shoes
My grandma was in town a few weeks ago. She gave me a pair of shoes that she said hurt her feet. She asked if either I or my niece, Abbie, could use them. I said that I would take them for sure. After trying to wear them, I determined that they hurt my feet, too. They have a really big piece of elastic in the heel and it's really uncomfortable. My niece, Abbie, has feet that have now grown much bigger than mine and I knew that she wouldn't be able to use them either. So, I had left them on the kitchen table while I decided what to do with them now. Well, Lexi found them and started walking all over the house in them. And she thought she was so cool!
Notice that her shoes are on the wrong feet! It doesn't bother her at all.
And she totally poses for pictures...
She was having a really good time walking around in those shoes. Her eye was still very swollen from her infection in her eyelid.
Rough Week
So, on Monday morning when Lexi woke up, I noticed that both of her eyes were a little swollen and her eyelids were purple colored. I didn't think too much of it because I knew that she was really tired. As the day went on, I noticed that they were getting more puffy and more purple. About noon, I called Thayne to see if he could think of anything that Lexi may have eaten that she hadn't been exposed to before. Neither of us could think of anything. I called the doctor and she asked a bunch of questions about Lexi--was she having trouble breathing, or was she conjested, and other general questions related to her health. We determined that there wasn't an immediate danger with her eyes just being swollen. But, that I should keep an eye on it and if anything changes to call them back.

On Tuesday morning, her eyes were more swollen and purple. I called the doctor and made an appointment to have her looked at that afternoon. By the afternoon, one eye had gotten almost all the way better, but the other eye had gotten significantly worse. It was swollen about halfway shut and was a really deep purple color. The doctor looked and looked and looked at her. He finally determined that she had a stye in her eye. He gave us an antibiotic and sent us on our way. But, he said that if it looked worse in the morning to call them back.
During the night that night, Lexi woke up crying. When we got up with her, her eye was totally swollen shut and about the size of a small golf ball. We let her sleep with us the rest of the night and called the doctor first thing in the morning. They said to come in immediately to have her looked at again. I hadn't been in the office more than 5 minutes when the doctor came to examine her. She looked at her for just a few seconds and said, "I want you to go straight to the ER at Primary Children's." I was terrified!
They sent us up to the hospital to have her looked at because they were worried that she had some kind of infection that was going to need IV antibiotics. When the doctors were finally able to examine her at Primary Children's, they determined that she had an infection in her eyelid, but it wasn't spreading into her eye. That was what we wanted to hear. But, it was an adventure that I didn't enjoy, nor do I think I'd like to experience it again. She is doing much better now, but she looked pretty bad for a couple of days. Here are some pictures of her and her swollen eye just after we got home from the hospital on Wednesday:
